Advancing Inclusion with Insight, Training and Community Voice
Belgravia Foundation continues to advance an evidence-based approach to community inclusion by using data, evidence, insights and local feedback to guide decision-making, and monitor impact.
Community Network Forums, program evaluations and lived experience input consistently shape the way Belgravia Foundation identifies enablers and barriers to participation and determines which programs are required to address local needs, and how to go about doing that. This ensures that every initiative is targeted, relevant, desired and aligned to Belgravia Foundation’s mission of creating equitable access to leisure, sport, aquatics, recreation and employment opportunities, for all, so no one misses out!
A significant contributor to this progress is the scale of workforce capability-building across the Belgravia Group network. More than 8,000 workers have completed MHeLP training, strengthening understanding of mental health awareness and building the confidence required to create safe and supportive environments. In addition, over 15,000 workers have completed YouMeUs training, increasing awareness of disability inclusion, diversity, respectful communication and practical strategies for promoting enablers and removing participation barriers. This extensive uptake ensures that community-facing teams are equipped with the knowledge and insight needed to deliver programs shaped by evidence and confirmed by community need.
To further strengthen workforce capability, CultureWise has been introduced as a free, online cultural awareness program created by Belgravia Leisure and supported by Belgravia Foundation. Co-designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, this Australian-first program builds understanding, confidence and cultural safety across the aquatics, fitness, recreation, sport and tourism settings. Through practical, self-paced learning, enlivened by contributions from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, CultureWise will support staff to communicate respectfully, understand cultural protocols and contribute to culturally safe and welcoming environments across the network.
MHeLP and CultureWise are recognised by AUSactive, with participants receiving Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points upon completion, further strengthening alignment with industry standards and professional practice.
Through continued investment in evidence, training and community insight, Belgravia Foundation is strengthening the capacity of teams in the leisure, aquatics, fitness, recreation, sport and tourism sector to better welcome, support and include all community members, ensuring meaningful participation and improved access for those who need it most.
