Knox Leisureworks Grant Boosts Learn to Swim Access for Local Youth
Belgravia Foundation is delighted to celebrate Knox Leisureworks success in securing funding through the Australian Government’s 2024–2025 Volunteer Grants program. This grant will enable a subsidised water safety and swimming program for young people aged 11–18 who are experiencing severe financial hardship.
From the earliest stages of the grant process, Belgravia Foundation played a key leadership role providing guidance, expertise and clarity in shaping the application process. This included ensuring the local team articulate the community need, strengthen the program’s inclusion outcomes, and ensure the proposal aligned closely with the priorities of the Volunteer Grants program. By offering strategic support and a clear framework for demonstrating impact, Belgravia Foundation helped position the project as a compelling, community centred initiative.
The program itself is further strengthened through partnership with Knox Infolink, a respected organisation that provides emergency relief, information, referrals and practical support to people experiencing hardship in the City of Knox. Knox Infolink will help identify young people who are experiencing the greatest barriers to accessing swimming and water safety education, ensuring the program reaches those who need it most. Their involvement deepens the project’s connection to the local community and ensures that the grant funding has meaningful and targeted impact.
The funded initiative will deliver a five-day intensive swimming and water safety course at Knox Leisureworks. Each participant will receive:
Daily swimming instruction
Critical water safety and survival skills education
Pre and post program assessments to measure progress
By removing all financial cost, the program ensures equal access to lifesaving skills that can build long-term safety and confidence.
This project demonstrates the power of partnership, between Knox Leisureworks, Belgravia Foundation, Knox Infolink, and the Department of Social Services to create safer, more inclusive communities. Together, ensuring that vulnerable young people have the opportunity to learn skills that may one day save their life.
