Grant Success: Jack Hort Memorial Community Pool to Become More Accessible for All

Belgravia Foundation is proud to share the success of our Stronger Communities Programme Round 9 grant application, which has secured $11,999.90 in funding to enhance accessibility at the Jack Hort Memorial Community Pool in Healesville.

The funding will support the installation of Platypus Pool Steps by Para Mobility, a purpose-built solution designed to provide safer and more inclusive access to the pool for seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, young children, and families.

The Jack Hort Memorial Pool has long been a valued community hub, offering opportunities for recreation, fitness, and social connection. Yet, limited entry options have presented challenges for many residents, particularly older adults and people with disabilities, who rely on swimming as a safe and low-impact form of exercise. The new steps will make it easier for all community members to enjoy the pool by improving safety, reducing the risk of slips and falls, and encouraging greater participation in aquatic activities.

“Accessibility is such an important part of ensuring our pools are welcoming to everyone,” said Kelly Parker, Belgravia Leisure. “The installation of these new steps will make a real difference for our community, particularly for people who might otherwise have struggled to enjoy the pool safely.”

Tayla Pallas, Belgravia Foundation Aquatics Access & Inclusion Coordinator, added: “This grant is a fantastic win for the Healesville community. It reflects our commitment to creating inclusive environments where everyone can participate, connect, and thrive.”

Installation of the steps is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with pool users invited to provide feedback to ensure the upgrades meet their needs.

Belgravia Foundation extends its thanks to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Stronger Communities Programme for their support in making this important community project possible.
