Local Fundraising, Lasting Impact Across Our Communities
Throughout December, Belgravia Foundation supported several Belgravia Leisure venues in their fundraising efforts, showcasing the powerful role community-driven initiatives play in responding to local needs. While each fundraiser looked different, the purpose remained the same: responding to locally identified priorities and helping remove barriers so more people can participate in leisure, aquatic and recreation opportunities.
At Belgravia Leisure venues, community needs are identified through ongoing engagement, including Community Network Forums held twice each year. These forums bring together local organisations, service providers and community members to better understand who may be missing out and why. When a need is identified, venues can work with Belgravia Foundation to seek support through grants or local fundraising initiatives. This approach ensures fundraising is purposeful, values-led and grounded in real community need, with 100% of funds raised reinvested locally into the identified program or support.
Because this model is locally driven, the impact is immediate and deeply personal, supporting individuals and families who might otherwise miss out on opportunities to move, connect, belong and thrive.
Several venues brought this approach to life over the summer period.
At Singleton Leisure Centre, a festive Christmas photo fundraiser raised funds to support a community member recovering from a major accident, covering a six month membership to assist with ongoing rehabilitation. Additional funds will provide shower packs, after hours shower access and warm drinks for vulnerable locals through a partnership with Singleton Neighbourhood Centre.
Manning Aquatic Centre hosted a family friendly Splash and Sizzle BBQ, raising funds to deliver accessible school holiday programs. This initiative ensures cost is never a barrier for children seeking a safe, active and engaging place to spend their school break.
At Stromlo Leisure Centre and Lakeside Leisure Centre, teams partnered with local community organisations to identify priority needs and deliver fundraising activities that will support inclusive programs within their centres. Funds raised will remain entirely local, directly benefiting community groups who face barriers to participation.
Gungahlin Leisure Centre also supported its community through a sausage sizzle held during the busy summer and Christmas period. By engaging members and visitors during peak times, the centre raised funds to support inclusive swimming opportunities for those who may not otherwise have access to regular learn to swim programs.
Together, these initiatives highlight the strength of locally led action and the important role leisure facilities play as hubs of connection and care. Through collaboration, shared purpose and community generosity, small moments of fundraising continue to create meaningful and lasting change.
