Belgravia Foundation and Disability Sport and Recreation support COVID-19 protection

Belgravia Foundation was pleased to rapidly respond to a call for help from Disability Sport and Recreation (Victoria), urgently requesting access to an aquatic centre for filming.

Disability Sport and Recreation is working in partnership with the Victorian Department of Health to promote the COVID-19 vaccinations – and particularly the third dose – amongst people under 30. The campaign is called #ItsNotTooLateToVaccinate and features three athletes with disability discussing their journeys in deciding to get vaccinated. It is a great showcase of the adage ‘nothing about us, without us.’

At the last moment, access to an aquatic centre previously arranged by Disability Sport and Recreation became unavailable, leading to a scurry of action and a reach out to Belgravia Foundation CEO, Jeff Walkley.

The need for this campaign emerged from health data showing vaccination uptake among young adults, and a timely and impactful boost promoting the importance of vaccination was needed.

Following mid-morning contact, Belgravia Foundation leapt into action, leveraging on the trust and relationship it had with Belgravia Leisure and Moonee Valley City Council to make available the brand new Keilor East Leisure Centre, a state-of-the-art facility. Plaudits are richly deserved by both Belgravia Leisure and Moonee Valley City Council for supporting this initiative, a process that typically would take in excess of a week being condensed and delivered within 7 hours – not 7 days.
