Miranda Roberts joins Belgravia Foundation team

Belgravia Foundation is pleased to be hosting Miranda Roberts, who is in the final year of her Health Science degree at Monash University and will be completing her fieldwork placement with Belgravia Foundation and Belgravia Leisure. Below Miranda shares some personal information that resulted in her passion for community health and helping others.

“Throughout my life I have always enjoyed helping people. I have been involved in fundraising, including walkathons, collecting donations such as clothes, and non-perishable food for the disadvantaged, and with the help of my Nanna and cousins, I knitted and sold, stuffed toys for a charity stall of which the proceeds went to a disadvantaged school.

When I was 10 my mum had a brain aneurysm, which was quite scary as she nearly died. Seeing the paramedics, doctors and nurses in action which ultimately saved my mum’s life, inspired me to do something in the health/medical industry.  In my early teens, I injured my knee and required surgery, having many medical appointments, got me interested in allied health roles like occupational therapy. I began my health science degree in 2019 and am currently in my final year. Although I don’t know exactly what I want to do in the future I am hoping to make a positive difference in people's lives. I am thinking about completing a master’s degree in occupational therapy, as I would like to help people with barriers achieve better health.  I have also found learning about global health issues in low- and middle-income countries in my health sciences degree very interesting and would love to pursue work in global health.

I really like Belgravia Foundation’s and Belgravia Leisure’s holistic approach to health and I am really excited to be working with the team, especially because of their focus on making services more accessible to people who are experiencing disadvantage. I think this is so important to bring normalcy to a person’s life and improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Everyone deserves to be healthy and happy.”

Belgravia Foundation is thankful for Miranda’s contribution to our work and wishes her all the best on placement and beyond.
