Turning dreams into reality at Wollondilly Community Leisure Centre

Meet Chip, a familiar face at Wollondilly Community Leisure Centre who is on a mission to turn his dream into reality. Chip's passion for swimming runs deep, and his dream job has always been to become a Learn to Swim instructor.

Chip's story began years ago when he first learned to swim at Wollondilly Community Leisure Centre. His passion for swimming led him to join the fitness squad, where he continued to hone his skills and nurture his love for the water. Recently, Chip took a significant step towards his dream career by completing his courses to become an assistant instructor.

Steph Barnes, our Aquatic Service Coordinator, shares Chip's enthusiasm for his new role. Chip's presence brings joy to the Learn to Swim team, and his genuine passion for teaching shines through as he celebrates the progress of each child with high fives and encouragement.

Chip's impact on the Learn to Swim program extends beyond the pool deck. Parents and guests have praised his dedication and teaching style, highlighting the positive influence he has on the children he works with.

For Anna Barnes, our Head Squad Coach, Chip's journey from swimmer to coach is a source of immense pride: "I have been Chips swim coach for 10 years and now he is Coach Chip, his dream come true. We are all so proud of him. I’m not sure who’s smile is the biggest, Chips, the kids he works with or the staff at Wollondilly Leisure Centre!"

Belgravia Foundation is committed to creating pathways to participation for everyone, regardless of background or ability. Chip's journey is a testament to the success of this approach, and we are proud to support him from afar as he fulfills his dream of becoming a Learn to Swim instructor.

Belgravia Foundation would like to thank the Department of Social Services and Austswim for their contribution to Chip’s journey through support from the ILC Social and Community Participation Grant. We are very excited to watch Chip grow and strive for his next career aspiration.
