Belgravia Foundation relaunch the Take Charge Exercise Program across Belgravia Leisure facilities in Melbourne

In the pursuit of mental well-being, exercise and healthy habits have proven to be vital allies. At Belgravia Foundation, we recognize that fostering physical health goes hand in hand with nurturing mental health. It's with this belief that we are excited to announce the re-launch of our Take Charge Exercise Program at Knox Leisureworks, Mill Park Leisure Centre, Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre, and WaterMarc, all Belgravia Leisure operated leisure facilities in Melbourne.

Why Exercise and Healthy Habits Matter

Mental health is a complex interplay of factors, but one thing is clear - our physical well-being is deeply intertwined with our mental state. Engaging in regular exercise and adopting healthy habits can serve as powerful strategies to both prevent the onset of poor mental health and mitigate the impacts of certain mental health conditions.

Exercise releases endorphins, those wonderful "feel-good" chemicals in our brains. These endorphins act as natural mood lifters, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. Regular physical activity can improve sleep patterns, boost self-esteem, and enhance overall cognitive function. It's not just about physical fitness; it's about nurturing a positive mindset.

The Take Charge Exercise Program: A Beacon of Support

Belgravia Foundation's Take Charge Exercise Program is more than just a free gym membership; it's safe and supportive environment for those living with diagnosed mental health conditions. We understand the profound impact exercise and social connections can have on mental well-being, and we've designed this program with mental health experts to harness these benefits.

Participants referred by GPs, psychologists, or psychiatrists receive a complimentary 60-day membership at participating Belgravia Leisure venues. During this period, they become a part of our community, embarking on their wellness journey with the support of our dedicated team.

The Take Charge Exercise Program is not just about physical fitness; it's about creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. Through research we understand, social connections and a sense of belonging are integral to mental wellness. That's why Belgravia Leisure staff undergo training build their knowledge, confidence and capacity before welcoming participants into the program. Through the program, participants find a community facility where they are welcomed, supported and included.

A Comprehensive Approach to Mental Well-Being

We take a comprehensive approach to mental well-being, focusing on prevention, intervention, and support. We offer staff training programs, including MHeLP and Mental Health First Aid, to ensure that our venues are equipped to assist if a mental health concern arises. We're not just a gym; we're a safe space where individuals can find support, camaraderie, and the tools they need to thrive.

At Belgravia Foundation, we understand that the road to mental wellness is not one-size-fits-all. That's why our Take Charge Exercise Program offers tailored support, recognising that each person's journey is unique. We're committed to being a partner in this journey, offering not only exercise facilities but also a warm and welcoming community.

In summary, exercise and healthy habits are essential tools for positive mental well-being. Through the re-launch of our Take Charge Exercise Program, we aim to provide a holistic approach to mental health, emphasising the significance of social connections and a sense of belonging. Together, we can build a healthier, happier community, one step at a time.
