Belgravia Foundation celebrates Manning Aquatic Centre’s collaboration with Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council to create pathways to participation in leisure activities for all backgrounds, cultures and diversities.

Manning Aquatic Centre and Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council have collaborated over the past year on multiple opportunities to better welcome, support and include all in community activities. Their aim was to introduce new and tailor existing programs that help break barriers and encourage participation in a safe and inclusive environment.

An aqua group fitness class was implemented to directly support the local indigenous community, particularly adults and older adults., which was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants on a monthly basis.

Another program was introduced called the Wiradjuri Warrior Course. Young people and youth were encouraged to challenge their skills on the inflatable obstacle course in the pool. The program was free, fun and safe for all to participate in an inclusive community environment.

Collaboration, co-design and co-action were pivotal to the success of these programs. Belgravia Foundation wishes to praise the partnership formed between Manning Aquatic Centre and Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council and looks forward to the growth of opportunities for local people in Bathurst and surrounds as a result of their collaboration.
