In a unique fundraising collaboration with Belgravia Foundation, the City of Liverpool has enabled the placement of a Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) at Whitlam Leisure Centre, Liverpool. The monthly licence fee for placement of the RVM will be paid by TOMRA Collection Solutions Australia to Belgravia Foundation, with all money raised to be used to support those in need in the City of Liverpool to participate in leisure, sport, aquatics and fitness.

Supplementing this monthly fundraising, TOMRA have installed Belgravia Foundation as a featured charity for three months from late February 2020, allowing people who deposit containers into the RVM to forgo a cash refund and instead pass on the money to Belgravia Foundation, with all money raised locally being put to good use locally. Additionally, Belgravia Leisure in cooperation with the Café operator at Whitlam Leisure Centre will promote this initiative to patrons, urging them to deposit containers purchased inside the leisure centre into collection bins, with these then collected and deposited in the RVM and the refund allocated to Belgravia Foundation.  

A local steering committee made up of representatives from the City of Liverpool, Belgravia Foundation and Belgravia Leisure (operator of Whitlam Leisure Centre) will work with the community to identify how the funds will be spent. In addition to this outstanding social contribution, the RVM is already making a major environment contribution through recycling containers. In slightly less than three months since installation on December 9, 2019, an incredible 360,000 containers have been recycled, rather than go into landfill, litter the streets or cause untold damage in waterways.  This collaboration among different organisations showcases what can be done when groups combined in support of the communities they work and live.
