Farewell and Go Well Rosie Ackland
Belgravia Foundation has many supporters who work tirelessly to support those in need to benefit from participation in leisure, sport, fitness and aquatic activities.
Rosie Ackland has been indefatigable in support of the Mornington Peninsula (Victoria) community over more than 20 years, aligning her work, personal time and passion to help others toward improved health and happiness.
Rosie has a passion for community development, and will soon take up a role with Casey Council that will enable her to support that community.
In recent years, Rosie has worked with Belgravia Leisure as Manager of Somerville Recreation Centre, fostered strong community engagement, and been an active supporter of Belgravia Foundation. Prior to that Rosie worked with Mornington Peninsula Shire Council.
No matter who paid her salary, over 20+ years Rosie has always worked for the community.
Rosie’s impact has been significant, always striving to create opportunities for people with disabilities, of diversity and those who experience disadvantage to enhance their skills and engage in community life.
Importantly, her effort has been sustained long term, and through this work a multitude of groups have benefited. Her latest accomplishment has been the Fit & Fun program, an accomplishment which contributed significantly to Rosie receiving the prestigious Inclusion Specialist of the Year in 2019. Preceding this are too many highlights to describe in this tribute, with notable examples including:
Established ‘Stay on Your Feet’ falls prevention program for with community agencies, now delivered in over 50 community settings across Mornington Peninsula
Facilitated Lungs in Action (COPD) and Multiple Sclerosis Aquaeze and SWEAT Aqua Aerobics programs at Pelican Park Leisure Centre
In collaboration with local Koori community elders, Victoria Police and local clubs and coaches, created swim and basketball programs for Koori children and youth
Worked with Western Port Basketball Association to create pathways into basketball for people with a disability
Thank-you Rosie, and go well on your next chapter in supporting the community to live healthy and happy lives.
