Belgravia Foundation supports Basketball Victoria officials to build mental health and well-being capacity

This month, Belgravia Foundation collaborated with Basketball Victoria to support the health and well-being of their officials, coaches, players, administrators and supporters.

At Basketball Victoria, the team are dedicated to providing resources, support and opportunities to its team members so that everyone can be happy and feel fulfilled both professionally and personally in their roles.

In line with Basketball Victoria’s reinvigorated plan to shift the refereeing landscape across the state, Belgravia Foundation worked together with Basketball Victoria to bring event host and internationally renowned public speaker and Sports Psychologist, Lisa McInnes-Smith to the recent session delivered to NBL1 South referees.

The session was aimed at inspiring and encouraging positive change, both internally and externally, to impact the basketball fraternity and the broader community sport sector. Guest speaker, McInnes-Smith said, “We want each and every one of them (referees) to flourish because when they flourish personally, it affects the way they referee, and they become better at what they do.”

Technical Officials Manager, Jo Chu said "This was an opportunity to bring our league officials together to ensure we’re all on the same page in terms of culture, mindset, leadership and high performance, and I am grateful to the Belgravia Foundation for their support of this initiative.”

Attendants and referees were also provided with access to Belgravia Foundation’s newly developed Mental Health eLearning Program (MHeLP), which has been built specifically for the sports and community leisure sectors workers and volunteers to support their knowledge, understanding and confidence of one’s mental health, as well as others.
