Belgravia Foundation proudly acknowledges Thomo Hangs for their youth empowerment initiative

In this new story, Belgravia Foundation wishes to promote the community engagement excellence demonstrated by local champions at Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre (TRAC) operated by Belgravia Leisure on behalf of City of Whittlesea Council.

Thomo Hangs, a dynamic initiative led by TRAC in collaboration with various stakeholders, is tackling the critical issues of youth disengagement, anti-social behaviour, and unemployment in its community. This program not only aligns seamlessly with Belgravia Leisure's commitment to community engagement, access, and inclusion but also exemplifies the positive social impact achievable through targeted initiatives.

Inspired by Belgravia Leisure's Access & Inclusion Plan, TRAC has taken a proactive stance, demonstrating a deep understanding of the local challenges faced by youth. The establishment of Thomo Hangs, a youth drop-in centre, goes beyond providing a safe space; it revitalises TRAC's connection with Thomastown Secondary College. This collaborative effort actively involves students in health and well-being programs, creating a bridge between the recreation centre and the educational institution. This successful partnership mirrors Belgravia Foundation's values of community engagement and positive impact.

Thomo Hangs is a testament to TRAC’s commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships that bridge organisations, communities, and local stakeholders. The initiative's co-design process, shaped by extensive consultations with youth, ensures that activities resonate with their interests and needs, promoting genuine engagement. The program's evaluation methodology, focusing on quality, feedback, and inclusivity, underlines TRAC's dedication to achieving meaningful outcomes through participatory approaches.

The Thomo Hangs working group has yielded transformative results. Beyond mitigating youth disengagement and anti-social behaviour, it has nurtured a sense of belonging and trust among participants. The collaboration between TRAC, local educational institutions, and various community partners vividly illustrates both Belgravia Leisure’s and Belgravia Foundation's community engagement approach to inclusion. Thomo Hangs, as a model of engagement and impact, also embodies the Belgravia Foundation's vision of empowering individuals and communities through accessible, inclusive, and sustainable initiatives. The program stands as a beacon of positive change, showcasing the potential for social impact when communities, organisations, and foundations work hand in hand.
