Celebrating Community Engagement in New South Wales: A Journey of Inclusion and Impact

Belgravia Foundation is thrilled to celebrate the programs delivered in New South Wales advocate for community impact in the diversity and inclusion space.

Belgravia Foundation proudly celebrates the recent recognition of Belgravia Leisure venues across the Liverpool region for winning the Aquatics & Recreation Institute (ARI) Award for Best Diversity & Inclusion Program of the Year.

This achievement highlights the leadership and commitment of local champions, Ernest Kulauzovic and Wishy Murimba, to fostering diversity and inclusion, as well as celebrating the impactful of these programs to enhance the health and happiness of underrepresented groups within the community. 

  

The dedicated team at Liverpool have developed an innovative range of initiatives designed to meet diverse community needs. The women’s and learn-to-swim programs have empowered local women, enabling them to gain confidence in the water and build important life skills. Meanwhile, men's groups focusing on mental health and mentoring, developed in collaboration with PACS NSW and the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, provide crucial support for male participants navigating various life challenges. 

  

The award-winning Project Harmony, in partnership with Royal Life Saving, exemplifies the commitment to safety and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone has access to essential water skills. Additionally, the support of Belgravia Foundation has strengthened connections with the multicultural African community, local high schools, outreach programs, and Aboriginal Land Councils, ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most. 

  

Furthermore, the Seniors Swim for free initiative promotes health and wellness among older community members, while engagement with First Nations communities through collaborations with the Kari Foundation and Souths Cares Rabbitohs underscores a holistic approach to fostering community connections. 

  

In the 2023/2024 financial year, the Liverpool Venues team delivered an impressive 122 programs, engaging over 56,226 participants across three locations. This remarkable achievement reflects Belgravia Leisure's unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion, demonstrating how innovative initiatives foster social connections and enhance employability, ultimately creating a more inclusive community for everyone. 

  

The positive impact of these programs is evident in the heartfelt stories shared by participants. Rita, a participant in the swimming program, expressed her journey of overcoming initial fears and finding confidence in the water, attributing her success to the supportive environment created by the instructors and her fellow participants. 

  

Similarly, Bruce from PACS shared insights about the young men attending mentoring sessions at Whitlam, emphasizing the program's importance in improving lives and building community ties. These testimonials reinforce the significance of fostering an inclusive atmosphere where individuals feel valued and supported.
