Belgravia Foundation proudly recognises the vital contributions of carers during National Carers Week

Celebrated from October 13-19, National Carers Week serves as a poignant reminder of the incredible dedication shown by the three million Australians who provide unpaid support to family members and friends. These individuals are essential to the well-being of those living with disabilities, mental health conditions, chronic illnesses, terminal illnesses, substance issues, or the elderly. Understanding that anyone can become a carer at any time underscores the necessity for community awareness and support.

In alignment with this important recognition, Belgravia Foundation highlights MOVE Moonee Valley who hosted special events within the Access All Abilities (AAA) Swim and Social Program to honour the hard work of these caregivers. On October 15th at Keilor East Leisure Centre and October 19th at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, carers and AAA participants came together for enriching sessions focused on connection, fun, and community bonding. Each event included swimming activities followed by a complimentary afternoon tea, providing an opportunity for attendees to relax and engage with one another.

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the chance to connect with others in similar situations. Both carers and participants voiced a strong desire for more social events, highlighting the importance of creating a supportive community atmosphere where everyone feels included and valued.

Belgravia Foundation believes in recognising and celebrating the role of carers in communities. Raising awareness about the significant contributions of caregivers fosters a deeper understanding of their impact on the lives of those they support. The efforts made during National Carers Week underscore the need for continued community support and appreciation for the essential role caregivers play in enhancing the quality of life for individuals across various circumstances. Through these initiatives, the importance of connection and support within the community is amplified, contributing to a more inclusive environment for all.
