Belgravia Foundation support youth scholarship program with Geelong Golf Course and Northern Bay College

Northern Bay College in Geelong North is 80 kilometres north of Melbourne and delivers education across five locations from Foundation to Year 12. Through its SEED Program (Sport, Empowerment, Education and Development), six students from years 7 to 10 have been awarded a scholarship from Geelong Golf Club with the support of Belgravia Foundation. The scholarship program aims to support youth facing mental health challenges, who as a result often miss out on the opportunity to participate in leisure activities.

“The scholarship program supports students who aren’t the most athletic or struggle with mainstream class activities. They are provided with a connection to step outside the classroom and onto the fairways. An opportunity to experience a sport which, at times, can be daunting,” said PGA Professional and Geelong Golf Club Venue Manager Paul Christie.

“With positive influence, the team at Geelong Golf Club can encourage and collaborate with the students on the best learning activities where everyone can succeed. The scholarship recipients are vulnerable or struggling with their physical and mental wellbeing, and Geelong Golf Club provides a safe and inclusive venue where all are welcome regardless of ability. As a team, we love to foster positive relationships with the participants and watch their progress grow week to week,” continued Paul.

To create sustainability of the scholarship program, Geelong Golf Club hosted its Golf for Good event on March 18, where 40 golfers took to the fairways to raise vital funds to support the scholarship program. With over $2000 raised, Geelong Golf Club and Belgravia Foundation can continue to foster its support and guidance to the Northern Bay College scholarship students.

Belgravia Foundation, Geelong Golf Club and Northern Bay College will continue to work together throughout the 2023 school year as the SEED Program continues to grow and nurture students of all abilities. Principal Scott Diamond and Paul Christie look forward to further developing the program, hoping to extend it to younger year levels in the coming months.

Belgravia Foundation would like to thank each Geelong Golf Club member who participated in its Golf for Good event and look forward to many more throughout the coming months.
