Valley View Golf Course & Beyond Blindness create opportunities for blind and vision impaired golfers.
Nestled away in Thomas Turner Reserve, Holden Hill, South Australia you will find Valley View Golf Course. A picturesque 18-hole Golf course that prides itself on creating a sense of community, welcoming golfers of all ages and abilities.
Golf can be challenging at the best of times, but for those who are vision impaired or blind, the game of golf can be challenging to navigate, requiring assistance from time to time. To break down this barrier, Valley View Golf course has welcomed Beyond Blindness to the course assisting with a social round every Tuesday.
Beyond Blindness’s mission is to provide high-standard welfare, support and advocacy services to people who are blind or vision impaired, to promote independence, dignity and quality of life.
A team of volunteers from Beyond Blindness accompany blind or vision impaired players to Valley View Golf course weekly for the social round. The volunteers guide the vision impaired or blind players to the correct spot, point them in the direction of the hole, and provide information to help them take the perfect swing. The players don’t use traditional white golf balls, instead opting for fluorescent red ones, similar to the Bright red flags Valley View Golf course has at each hole.
Golf is just one of the many activities Beyond Blindness organises and assists people with, to help them stay social and active. Belgravia Foundation would like to commend Valley View Golf Course for collaborating with Beyond Blindness to create opportunities for those who are vision impaired or blind to connect and participate in the sport of golf.
