This Girl Can at Yarrambat Park Golf Course
In collaboration with Belgravia Foundation, Yarrambat Park Golf Course were successful in receiving funding from Nillumbik Shire Council to host week-long activities to celebrate This Girl Can Week – Victoria.
This Girl Can Victoria is an empowering campaign from VicHealth. This Girl Can advocates for all women – cis, trans, non-binary and gender diverse – to get active or back into physical activity in supportive and welcoming environments.
Throughout This Girl Can Week, Yarrambat Park Golf course hosted two free clinics with PGA Professional Aaron Attwell and PGA Associate Matt Allen. The aim of the clinics is to teach participants the basic yet vital techniques of golf with a focus on fun and social connections that are strengthened through morning tea. Participants were introduced to several golf techniques such as chipping, putting and learned how to master an appropriate golf swing.
“Receiving the grant from Nillumbik Shire Council has greatly served women of all ages in our community to access golf as first-time participants,” said Venue Manager, Matt Weisheit. Furthermore adding, “Grants such as this, in conjunction with the Belgravia Foundation, enable our team to provide a wide range of activations where participants can learn the basics of golf and take those skills to the fairways.”
Creating a positive experience for those new to exercise and creating a positive culture for current participants can increase the likelihood of consistent and ongoing participation in the future. Removing barriers such as cost and encouraging social interactions to help create a friendly atmosphere, is proven to be a key factor in improving women’s participation.
Belgravia Foundation commends Yarrambat Park Golf Course for hosting activities across This Girl Can week to empower women to have the confidence to sustain their physical activity participation in a safe and welcoming environment.
