Belgravia Foundation promotes Mental Health Awareness training

Belgravia Foundation is proud to have collaborated with Belgravia Leisure to provide access to an online training program targeted to give participants improved confidence and competency to understand mental health, learn about the role of exercise in supporting mental health, and to become more aware of strategies to support mental health self-care and care of others.

Coinciding with National Mental Health Week, and with added support and cooperation from Genesis Health & Fitness and Belgravia Kids Gym Swim, over 1,000 staff and associates were connected to the UK developed Mental Health Awareness (MHA) training. To further spread the benefit, Belgravia Foundation widely promoted the training to the leisure, sport and fitness sectors, and provided training evaluation templates to enable organisations to gather information about the impact and response of staff and volunteers to training.

The MHA campaign aimed to activate, educate and engage people about mental health and related issues in creating a positive environment for recovery, reducing stigma and discrimination, and making all work and life environments inclusive and respected.

Access to the UK Mental Health Awareness program was recommended to all staff within Belgravia Health & Leisure. With over 1,000 completions, and counting, there is clear evidence gathered through pre and post-training surveys that the program assisted people to understand mental health, make better choices, as well as an understanding about self-care and care for others in regard mental health.

With the MHA training available until September 30 for free (hopefully extended), normally £18 per person (~$35), cost as a barrier was eliminated and access became much easier to anyone from anywhere at any time, particularly given the substantial financial impact COVID-19 has had caused to the leisure, sport and fitness sectors, and with many confined or working from home.
