Belgravia Foundation supports online golf videos to remain engaged with the Nillumbik community during isolation

Victorians have experienced a major disruption to their lives, and for those passionate about sport it has interrupted their participation and the benefits they have enjoyed.

Golfers are a hardly group, renowned for their commitment to the sport and those with whom they share the golf course, putting and driving ranges, and of course a catch-up and chat with friends.  Many golfers work hard to improve their skills, done through practice, social and organised competition, and coaching!

Covid-19 restrictions have significantly impacted on how golfers play, practice and improve their performance.

Yet, in a crisis, innovation often emerges.

Nillumbik Shire Council, through Covid-19 community grants, acted quickly to provide funding support to organisations and individuals to respond rapidly with innovative ideas to help the community keep healthy, active and happy.

Belgravia Foundation, in collaboration with Yarrambat Golf Course and Brock Gillard, got to work and was awarded a grant to help the Nillumbik community, and further afield.

Brock Gillard, Head Golf Professional at the Belgravia Leisure operated Yarrambat Golf Course, created Pro Tips to keep the local public engaged in sport, in particular golf, during the COVID-19 lock down and post- lockdown restrictions.

Utilising Facebook live, Brock produced and videoed 10 live golf clinics, open to the general public, covering a range of topics and interactions from those participating. With Yarrambat Golf Course having a contact list and Facebook following in the many thousands, the reach into the local community of this great initiative is enormous.

The lessons were focussed on all areas and could be undertaken at home or outside, and were open to all ability levels.

During the course of the lessons the Pro Tips program reached a total 29,000 people, and remains accessible on the Yarrambat Golf Course Facebook page.  It’s certainly worth a look. Click here to find out more!
